Nile Terracotta

It’s not often that we at Garden Sage have the opportunity to work with a brand new company at the very beginning of their journey. But Nile Terracotta is an exception. We have been delighted to work with Kate and Saleh as they start their business importing large terracotta pots and vases from Egypt.

Saleh is from Egypt and has been a respected local landscaper for many years, when he started looking for large pots and vases for clients gardens, he realised that non compared in size or quality to those he remembered from Egypt.

Where do Nile Terracotta Pots come from

On one of his frequent trips to Egypt, Saleh went on an exploratory trip to Al Fayoum part of the Fayoum Oasis, where Nile clay is used by local manufacturers to make beautiful, large and extremely tough pots. The family we work with have been in the business for many years, passing down their skills from generation to generation. All of the pots and vases are hand crafted meaning that each pot and vase is one of a kind. The pots are made in huge hand built kilns that are larger than most European factory kilns and baked at a high temperature over a long period of time making the pots very robust and able to withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures. Kate and Selah refer to the pots as being ‘brought for life’.

The area has a tradition for creating large pots used for generations for both decorative and functional purposes. Saleh selected to work with an established, family run manufacturer who shared his own values and supported the local community. Pots will come in a range of sizes and styles selected by Saleh and Kate.
